North Shore East / Peter Pan
The area known as “Peter Pan” by locals is situated in Big Bear City, on both sides of North Shore Drive/Hwy38, roughly between Greenway Drive and Van Dusen Canyon. Called “Peter Pan” for its subdivision name, it is home to streets such as Wendy, Michael and Tinkerbell, and was one of the earliest areas developed in Bear City.
The portion of Peter Pan that lies to the south of North Shore Drive features level lots and easy access, and hosts a variety of home styles with pride of ownership evident from street to street. The portion that lies north of North Shore offers a more upslope terrain, both with beautiful pines and a shaded exposure.
Historic, preserved “Maltby” style homes share the neighborhood with newer properties, and “charming” and “quaint” are adjectives regularly used in reference to Peter Pan. Homes in the area range from small to medium. With a majority of full-time residents, it offers a great “neighborhood” feel. Adjacent to the northern boundary of the Big Bear City Airport, the area is also popular with pilots for its “walk to the airport” location.
Peter Pan is just minutes from the businesses and services offered in Big Bear City, and a short drive down picturesque North Shore to reach the shopping centers and the lake in Big Bear Lake. It’s just blocks from one of the entrances to Holcomb Valley, and miles of National Forest trails and roads waiting for exploration.
Looking for something with a great mountain feel, with a quiet and friendly atmosphere? Take a drive down any of the streets named for the characters in the Peter Pan tale, and you’re sure to find something to your liking!
