Once you’ve been pre-qualified for a loan, you should be ready to put your house-hunting efforts into high gear. The next important step in the home buying process is scouting out the Big Bear neighborhoods and getting familiar with each area.
The best way to get started in your neighborhood search is to get in your car and explore, especially if you’re unfamiliar with Big Bear. Ask your agent for a map and just start driving around. Get an idea about the neighborhoods by seeing first hand which areas appeal to you.
If skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports are your passion, you may want to check out Moonridge, Summit Estates, and Winter Park for their proximity to Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. Boating and fishing enthusiasts should explore Boulder Bay, Gilner Point, and Eagle Point. Fawnskin and Lake Williams are great places to hide out from the world, perfect for writers, hikers, and outdoor lovers. Castle Glen, Ironwood, and High Timber Ranch are good places to explore if you’re in the market for a custom home or home site.
When you find an area that you like, get out of the car and walk around. Explore the surrounding area and talk to some of the residents. You’ll get more local information out of a 10 minute chat with a neighbor than hours of search time on the computer. Take note of the general appearance of the homes. Are they well maintained? Are they nicely landscaped?
Talk to the agents at Tyler Wood Group. They’re very familiar with all the Big Bear neighborhoods and will be able to tell you about the strengths and weaknesses of the specific neighborhoods you’re considering.
