Mountain Holidays

Living in the mountains of southern California is especially fun during the holiday season. Big Bear dresses up with some magnificent touches from Mother Nature.

One of my favorite traditions is singing Christmas carols with Santa, in the Village. This year, we expect Santa to arrive on Friday, November 23rd (the day after Thanksgiving). You can take advantage of free parking at the Visitor’s Center. We suggest you arrive early and dress warm so you can enjoy the live entertainment and the carolers. Enjoy priceless holiday moments as children read their holiday wishes to Santa and Mrs. Claus. The festivities begin at 4:30 PM as Santa arrives to light the Christmas tree at the corner of Pine Knot Avenue and Village Drive.

If you’re looking to dine first, there are several restaurants we can recommend. The CopperQ offers espresso, cappuccino, gourmet pastries and shopping. Nottingham’s Restaurant is California trendy with a full bar. The Peppercorn Restaurant serves a great selection of homemade Italian cuisine.

If your taste tends toward the exotic, we can suggest the Himalayan Restaurant. Their food is from Indian and Nepal. Start with appetizers of momo or pakoras and Yeti beer. Then, head to the curries.

Whether you’re looking to experience private gourmet dining (Knickerbocker Mansion) or coffee and karaoke at Boo Bear’s Den; the Village at Big Bear Lake is always fun.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will continue to visit every Saturday and Sunday through Christmas. Enjoy the holidays, in a small town in the mountains.
