If you’ve been considering a remodel project for your Big Bear cabin or home, and just don’t know where to start, there’s a great new “app” available – and best of all, it’s free. Zillow Digs, launched by Zillow.com, is hoping to corner some of the social media market share that houzz.com and pinterest.com have in the virtual real estate world.
Zillow.com is the website that allows visitors to get an estimate (or as it’s called on the site, “zestimate”) on the value of homes. Zillow helps homeowners, buyers and sellers, renters, real estate agents and mortgage professionals, as well as landlords and property managers, find and share vital information about homes, real estate and mortgages. Zillow claims to have data on more than 110 million U.S. homes, which include those for sale, for rent, and even many not currently on the market.
It makes sense that this same company would launch an app that is helping consumers learn more about home improvement. The popularity of social sharing sites like Houzz and Pinterest proved that there’s a market for uploading attractive remodeling and real estate photos and now there’s Zillow.com/Digs.
It’s similar to the other social sharing sites where you can upload, pin, and like the photos, but a great feature of this app is that you can also see an estimate for the remodeling work. The proprietary Digs Estimates provide information about costs for remodeling bathrooms, kitchens, and various other home improvements.
This is sure to be a hit in the real estate world where, according to a recent survey, almost 75 percent of homeowners who purchased a home in the last year had recently completed a home improvement project with many choosing to remodel the kitchen or bathroom. This should be particularly useful in areas like Big Bear, where many older cabins and homes would benefit greatly from a well-planned remodel.
This new app serves not only as a comparison for those searching for costs and projects that might be similar to their own remodel but also as an inspiration for Big Bear homeowners looking for new, fresh home improvement ideas.
Those interested in real estate will find the beautiful pictures and the cost-calculations extremely helpful. According to Zillow, the Digs Estimate algorithm was created by economists and data analysts who produce extensive housing data and research. The estimates take into consideration how costs may vary in different markets throughout the country.
